In celebration of the country's Semiquincentennial, our third class in the Viscount Academy curriculum will pay homage to Indigenous & Hybrid Grape Varietals. While Vitis vinifera (European grape varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, etc.) holds a special place in most wine enthusiast's hearts, the history, and impact of other Vitis species, such as labrusca, riparia, and rotundifolia should not be ignored. From saving the European wine industry to creating distinctly American wines, these lesser known Vitis iterations have certainly played an important role in the millennia long tradition of viticulture.
