New York Wines & Points of Interest
According to HudsonValleyWineCountry.org, the Hudson Valley is America's oldest wine making and grape-growing region. The Hudson Valley Wine Country website offers many wineries and tasting rooms. Beyond the wineries, the Hudson River Valley region contains a wealth of natural beauty rich with hiking and biking trails, many very famous historic sites, and a culinary treasure of farms and restaurants.
Last Store on Main Street Coalition The Last Store on Main Street Coalition is a group of small business advocates, local wine store owners, New York wineries, wholesalers, distributors and unions that came together in 2009 to fight then-Governor Paterson's dangerous proposal to allow wine sales in grocery stores. This plan will put nearly 4,500 people out of work as almost 1,000 stores are forced to close. This plan will hurt small wineries that have proven an important part of local economies in regions around the state, helping to fuel a growing wine tourism industry. Lastly, but maybe most importantly, law enforcement has indicated this will increase underage drinking. |
